Emmanuelle A. Marquis

This year’s Heinrich Award for a distinguished young scientist early in his or her career is awarded to Emmanuelle Marquis, the Dow Corning Assistant Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Michigan. Emmanuelle is a native Parisian and she pursued her undergraduate degree at the Ecole des Mines de Paris and in 1999, her PhD studies took her to Northwestern University. In late 2002, Emmanuelle took up a post-doctoral appointment at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA. Two years later she was made a full member of the technical staff at Sandia, where she remained until 2007, when she was hired by the Department of Materials at University of Oxford, UK to manage their atom probe tomography microscope laboratory. The following year, The Royal Society bestowed upon Emmanuelle a prestigious Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship, which funded her research for the remainder of her tenure at Oxford. In January 2011, Emmanuelle took up her current position as an assistant professor position in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Michigan.
